Treatment for biofilm-related Staphylococcus aureus prosthetic joint infection

In-vitro antibacterial and antibiofilm activity of savirin or ticagrelor, alone and in combination with cefazolin, vancomycin, and rifampicin, against Staphylococcus aureus was tested. Effect of savirin or ticagrelor on the expression of key biofilm-related genes in S. aureus was also studied. Finally effect of savirin or ticagrelor, alone and in combination with cefazolin, to treat biofilm-related S. aureus prosthetic joint infection was studied in a mouse model. These experiments were performed to collect data to study the in-vitro antibacterial and antibiofilm activity of savirin or ticagrelor, alone and in combination with antibiotics, to study the effect of savirin or ticagrelor in the expression of key biofilm-related genes in S. aureus, and to study the effectiveness of savirin or ticagrelor, alone and in combination with cefazolin, to treat biofilm-related S. aureus prosthetic joint infection in an animal model. The antibacterial and antibiofilm activity of human synovial fluid against Staphylococcus aureus was also studied. The data generated were stored and analysed using graphpad. One way ANOVA followed by Tukey multiple comparison test was used.
