Effects of elevated temperature on the performance and survival of Pacific crown-of-thorns starfish (Acanthaster cf. solaris)

Data was collected in order to establish the effects of elevated temperature on the performance and survival of crown-of-thorns starfish. The data consists of the following responses at different temperatures: righting time, average movement rate, standard metabolic rate, survival. The average movement rate was established using Adobe After Effects Software. Righting time, average movement rate and standard metabolic rate data was analysed in R studio using linear mixed effects models. Survival data was analysed using Kaplan Meier survival analysis and cox regression.

Attachment Lang et al. Mar Biol code.Rmd Code for statistics and graphs for paper "Effects of elevated temperature on the performance and survival of Pacific crown-of-thorns starfish (Acanthaster cf. solaris)". Linear mixed effects models using the lme4 and nlme packages was used to establish the effect of temperature/treatment on righting, movement and standard metabolic rate. Log-rank tests and cox regression using the survival package was used to establish survival in the four treatments. This package was also used to create a Kaplan-meier survival plot and ggplot2 was used to create graphs for the other three responses. Linear ordinary least squares regression analyses using the stats package was used to establish the scaling exponent for the relationship between weight and the responses.
